Angela Maria Russo Opening

The Marvel of Butterflies

December 19, 2009, opening day at La Porta Gallery.

I do not know how it happens, but when we have an opening anywhere near winter, we get snow. This time it came with the coldest temperature of the season and we got a number of calls from people not wanting to chance the drive into the valley due to ice on the roads. But the show must go on!

Stefano helping hang the show.

Above are samples of Angela's drawings and below are some of the watercolors.

As you can see Angela brought a nice range of work in style and concept, all with some relationship to the butterfly. Some of the works were quite unexpected with depictions of cocoons from various types of butterflies which made nice contrasts with the more traditional and colorful works which focused on coloration and patterns found within the wings.

Here is Angela standing next to one watercolor that focuses on part of a caterpillar.

We were prepared. Angela made the pastries which were delicious.

Ah, quite a few persons ventured out despite the weather and they were glad they did. Angela's work looked great and we thank her for sharing them with us.
